Barley straw pads provide a natural, chemical free solution to clarity in ponds. The open cut ends allow water to penetrate the hollow stems, speeding the breakdown process. Soluble carbohydrates released from the surface of the straw act on the monocellular green water algae causing them to clump together and sink to the bottom. Green water is cleared in a few days. 12 months protection for an average sized garden pond. Position in the middle of natural ponds and, where there is natural flow, close to the water inlet, fountain or waterfall. Tens of thousands of packs are in regular use.
